The Indianola football team scored with 45 seconds remaining to go ahead of Ballard to earn a victory on homecoming Friday night 30-27 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians scored on their first drive with a 96-yard pass from Andrew DeWall to Eli Fox to go ahead 7-0, but the Bombers scored twice to go ahead 14-7. And Indianola would get a 41-yard field goal from Aiden Keller right before halftime to trail 14-10 at the break.
Indianola scored twice more in the third quarter with DeWall finding Fox again for 31 yards and Vinnie Anderson for 32 yards, but Ballard scored in the fourth with just minutes remaining to go ahead 27-23. The Indians drove down the field, and with 45 seconds to go DeWall rushed the ball in from the 8-yard line to get the go-ahead score and the Indians defense held on to win it.
Head coach Eric Kluver said after the game this is what he wanted to see after the team was disappointed in their performance against Carlisle the week previous, fight to the very end.
“This was exactly what we needed. We knew we were going to be against a very good football team and they showed that tonight. Just a physical running attack, they got over the top on us on their second touchdown, and they do a great job and are a really solid football team. Our team showed a lot of guts, a lot of courage, I thought they really matured tonight late in this football game to show up. Put a drive together, get a stop, and put a drive together to go win a football game.”
DeWall had 303 yards passing and three scores through the air in addition to 39 yards rushing and a score. Eli Fox had 176 yards and two scores receiving. The Indians improve to 3-2, and host Boone next week to continue district play.
