Following their dominant 56-38 win Friday night, the Pella Christian football team now turns their attention to long-standing foe Sigourney Keota this week.
This Friday’s contest between the Eagles and Cobras will be the ninth meeting dating back to 2012, and the third in as many years. The last two contests in the series determined the Class 1A District 5 champion, with Sigourney Keota winning both games in close fashion 20-13 and 15-13. Now in Class 1A District 6 this year, the matchup once again appears poised to determine who will take the top spot in the standings. Pella Christian and the Cobras each improved to 4-1 on the season this past Friday, and are the only teams with a 2-0 mark in the district. Eagles head coach Rich Kacmarynski says his squad will need to be better on both sides of the ball than they’ve been the last two years against Sigourney Keota.
“Offensively, we’ve got to move the ball and score. We’ve only score two touchdowns the last two years in each game, and Sigourney is not an offense where you can probably win 14-7 because their offense burns clock and wears your defense out. And then defensively, we got to get off the field. There are too many times in the last two years where they just continue to get first down after first down. So to me, those are the two big things we got to do to beat Sigourney next week.”
Pella Christian travels to Sigourney on Friday, and the game will be broadcast on 92.1 KRLS beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m.
