The Simpson football team held the #4 Wartburg scoreless in the first quarter, but couldn’t keep up with the Knights after a lightning delay, as they fell 63-0 at home Saturday afternoon as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm came out strong defensively, limiting Wartburg’s offensive opportunities early on and giving the offense a chance to take the lead, but a blocked field goal would keep the score a zeroes after the first quarter. The two teams then retreated to the locker rooms for nearly an hour for a lightning delay, killing any Storm momentum.

The Knights defense allowed a short field constantly in the second quarter as the offense took advantage and scored four touchdowns to take a commanding lead. A fumble on the second half kickoff jump started the Knights again, as they scored four more times in the third quarter to lead 56-0, and added another touchdown in the fourth, while the Storm only mustered 224 yards of total offense.

Head coach Reed Hoskins tells KNIA Sports he was proud of the fight the team showed, and he wants them to be able to replicate their start and carry that throughout the games.

Simpson falls to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in American Rivers Conference play, and travel to Buena Vista on Saturday.
