Opening up the American Rivers Conference season on the road at Simpson College, the Central College women’s soccer team was defeated 3-0, while the men’s team suffered a 3-1 loss Sunday afternoon.

The Storm (7-1-0, 1-0-0 conference) entered the game ranked No. 3 in the region but the Dutch women (4-2-3, 0-1-0 conference) dictated the game early, including a Kaitlyn Isom shot attempt forcing save just over a minute into the contest. The Storm found the net twice in the 16th and 17th minute to take control before adding a third tally in the final 10 minutes. Simpson outshot Central 14-5, with just two of the Dutch shots going on frame. Grace Coates had the other shot on goal in addition to Isom’s early strike. Zoey Sizemore made three saves while taking the loss in goal.

The Central men (3-2-2, 0-1-0 conference) maintained possession for 50 percent of the match against Simpson (4-4-0, 1-0-0 conference) but two second-half goals cost them dearly. After the Storm started the scoring in the 18th minute, Alejo Marcon’s corner kick found Spencer Taylor for an equalizer. Tied at halftime, Simpson outshot Central 11-2 in the second half and scored twice. Central had allowed only four goals in the first six games.

The Central women’s soccer team hosts Greenville College (Ill.) in its final non-conference tilt Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while the Dutch are in Mount Vernon Tuesday for a 5 p.m. match at Cornell College.
