Dutch Wax Panthers in Women’s Soccer Affair

Breaking out of its offensive slump, the Central College women’s soccer team prevailed 3-0 over Greenville College (Ill.) Tuesday afternoon.

After being shut out in a pair of matches last week, Grace Coates got the scoring started for the Dutch (5-2-3) with her ninth goal of the season six minutes into the contest. Josie Newton’s throw-in set up the score. Coates added an assist in the 37th minute when she found MiMi Pavelka running into the box for a left-footed strike. An Amber Santana header off an Alli Seegers corner kick pushed the margin to 3-0. In 81 minutes in goal, Zoey Sizemore made three saves to get the win over the Panthers (1-5-3). The shutout was the sixth recorded by the Dutch defense this season. Tuesday was also the 125th win of coach Mike Kobylinski’s during his 13-year tenure. He has almost 100 more wins than anyone else in program history.

The Dutch host the University of Dubuque at 1:30 p.m. Saturday amidst Central’s Homecoming festivities.

Cornell Defeats Central Men’s Soccer Squad

A pair of first-half goals was too much for the Central College men’s soccer team to overcome in a 3-0 loss Tuesday at Cornell College.

The Rams (3-4-3) found the back of the net twice in the first 16 minutes to take control of the match against the Dutch (3-3-2). The first goal was a penalty kick 2:16 into the match. Cornell added a third goal in the 70th minute but Central had an 18-15 advantage in shots and a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Central also had 59% of the possession. The Dutch used 26 different players in the contest, its second in a seven-day span this week.

The Dutch will make a quick turnaround to play at Eureka College (Ill.) Thursday at 4 p.m.
