The Indianola volleyball team swept Newton in a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup Tuesday evening in their home gym, winning 3-0.
The Indians started strong in the first set, leading 5-1 then 10-5, then exploded out of the gate for a 21-11 lead before closing out the set 25-15. The second set saw Indianola maintain a slim lead for the majority of the contest, eventually pulling away to lead 18-11, only to see a Newton run to get the contest close before the Indians closed it out for a 25-21 victory.
The third set saw the Cardinals keep it close early with the Indians only ahead 13-12, but then went on a 12-4 run to close it out. They improve to 21-2 and 4-0 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, and will next play in one of the premier tournaments in the state, the Urbandale Invitational on Saturday.
