The Knoxville School Board approved the district’s Lau plan at their meeting on Monday Night.

This is a service plan required by Iowa code to to identify and serve the educational needs of limited English proficient students. The Lau Plan must be collaboratively written by the K-12 team, to include district administrators, building administrators, equity coordinator, EL teachers, and classroom/content teachers. The KCSD Lau plan team includes 13 individuals throughout the district. KCSD Superintendent Cassi Pearson said a majority of the students the lau plan involves are currently in elementary school.

“We serve about 28 different students right now who are learning English and Kim Abbott does a phenomenal job working with those students. Many of them are in elementary school so they are truly going to be bilingual which is really exciting.”
