The Monroe Iowa Community Garden is non-profit organization in Monroe that provides free produce for community members.
The garden was established this past spring and the produce is grown at 206 West Sherman Street in Monroe. Once the produce has been grown, it is placed at a stand on the square in Monroe and residents are encouraged to grab their produce. Recently the city gave the garden permission to expand. With more produce expected to be grown, Karen Bollhoefer says that they are looking for more volunteers to help tend to the garden.
“We have an additional 20 by 40 foot area that we’re going to plow up and plant some more stuff so we have additional stuff than what we had this year and kind of expand that out so we’re definitely going to be needing more volunteers.”
