The PCM football team will travel to Vinton tonight to take on the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings on short rest after playing a Monday night make-up game.

The Mustangs are now 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in the district after a 49-21 victory over Union Community. In the victory, junior running back Adrein Robbins only played the first half but rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns. In the second half, sophomore running back Shay Burns made the most of his opportunity carrying the ball 18 times for 145 yards. Quarterback Gavin Van Gorp was able to air the ball out more than usual in the contest as well, throwing for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

PCM will now travel two hours away again to take on Vinton-Shellsburg who are still looking for their first win of the season. The Vikings are 0-5 on the year and are coming off a 43-30 loss to Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday night. The Vikings are an unfamiliar opponent to PCM as they have never played in the Bound era. PCM Head Football Coach Greg Bonnett said Vinton-Shellsburg runs an offense that they are familiar with.

“They are very similar to what we’ve seen out of Union, what we’ve seen out of some of the other schools too. In terms of formation they always have three wide receivers, two backs in the backfield with a quarterback in the shotgun. It’s nothing that we haven’t seen before in that regard. When they’re on defense it’s a four front. Four front is something that if I had to pick and I’m not the offensive coordinator but if I had to pick to go against a defensive front it would be a four because that’s what I know.”

Tonight’s game against Vinton-Shellsburg will start at 7:30 pm and can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream.
