It’s homecoming this weekend at Central College, and the Dutch football team hosts Dubuque in American Rivers Conference action.

Central comes in at 3-1 and 1-1 in league play after beating Luther last week, while the Spartans are 1-2 and 1-0 in the ARC following their victory over Loras in the Key City Clash.

It’s been and up-and-down start for Central with a pair of sophomore quarterbacks taking most of the snaps. Hunter Hoffman has started all four games, and will start again today, with classmate Keegan Glover seeing plenty of action as well. The Dutch have passed for 909 yards in four games, they’ve thrown 11 touchdowns, but also seven interceptions, many of them right to the defender. Coach Jeff McMartin has a lot of confidence in his young signal-callers, but says that they’re making some tweaks to give them the best chance for success today and down the road.

“You know, we have a big playbook and there’s a lot of good that comes with that, but sometimes you want to go through and evaluate everything situationally and formationally and figure out how you’re executing. If those things are not shaking out how you want them to, then making changes is important. So we did that, we kind of simplified things, took a few things out and our goal in some ways is to do simple really well.”

Kickoff for today’s homecoming matchup is at 1:00 at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium in Pella. Newly minted Hall of Honor members George Wares and Don DeWaard will both join Trevor Castle to call the action live on 92.1 KRLS. Audio commentary will also be available with video on the Central Dutch Network. Pregame starts at 12:35.
