The Pride of Indianola Marching Band has their first competition of the year today at Urbandale, with their space-themed show “One Small March for Band.” Band Director Mike Richardson tells KNIA News the name was picked by the students, and the theme will feature familiar music such as Elton John, David Bowie, and more.

‘How are you going to get into space? Well you gotta usually take a rocket, so we are going to open with Elton John’s Rocket Man. While you are up in space, what are some of the first things you see? We are playing David Bowie’s Star. As your journey goes along, you will see some planets so we are playing Jupiter and Mars. You can’t go into space without doing something with the moon, so we are using Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me to the Moon, and then we are adding in Space Oddity by David Bowie, Ground Control to Major Tom. Then more Rocket Man at the end to bring us back home.”
