Senior Noah Buhrow paced a group of five Norwalk medalists at Saturday’s Steve Johnson Invitational, placing sixth among a field of 400-plus runners at Wartburg College.
Ranked 10th in Class 4A by the Iowa Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches, the Warriors boys placed sixth out of 49 teams with a score of 207. The Norwalk girls posted a score of 754 and finished 31st out of 42 teams in the meet. Team champions were the Cedar Falls boys and Dubuque Hempstead girls.
Buhrow, who is listed 16th in the latest 4A individual rankings, was the fourth-highest finisher among Iowa runners on Saturday. He placed sixth overall with a 5-kilometer time of 15:55. Additional Norwalk medalists included Teegan Kralik in 34th place (16:44), Henry Groos 39th (16:51), Sam Parker 64th (17:14) and Corbin Oswald 70th (17:16). The Norwalk junior varsity boys placed second as a team.
Sophomores Anita Scholten and Pearl Brown led the Warrior girls by finishing 120th and 129th, respectively, out of 354 individuals. Their times were 22:43 and 22:54. Lhotse Samuelson (171st), Brooke Seeley (188th) and Kaiya Kralik (199th) also finished in the top 200.
Both Norwalk squads return to competition Thursday for the Fort Dodge Invitational at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.
Warrior golfers set for District play
Norwalk is one of 14 teams competing at Monday’s Class 4A Boys District Golf Tournament at Ankeny’s Briarwood Golf Club. Tee time is set for noon.
The top three team finishers at Briarwood will advance to the 4A State Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 6-7, at Ankeny’s Otter Creek Golf Course. The top two individual place-winners (plus ties) among non-qualifying teams will also advance to the state meet.
