The PCM volleyball team went 5-0 Saturday, winning the Pleasantville volleyball tournament, and the hosting Trojanswent 3-2.

The Mustangs started off the day defeating Colfax-Mingo 2-0 (21-12, 22-20) and then went on to beat Southeast Warren 2-0 (22-20, 21-17) to close out their morning play. In their third match of the day, PCM beat Pleasantville 2-0 (22-20, 21-19) to get a win over the Trojans, who have been red hot recently. In their last two matches of the day, the Mustangs defeated Martensdale-St. Marys 2-0 (21-19, 21-5) and Saydel 2-0 (21-6, 21-9) to complete the sweep and win the tournament. The Mustangs were firing on all cylinders in the tournament, never dropping a set. PCM Coach Sarah De Vries was happy with how her team came out.

“They’re just playing really well. They’re talking really well. They have a lot of energy and our serve receive really couldn’t be any better right now.”

Pleasantville dropped their first match of the day to Southeast Warren 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-10) but bounced back in their second match to defeat Saydel 2-0 (21-9, 21-15). After their loss to PCM in their third match, the Trojans were able to close out the tournament with two wins over Martensdale-St. Mary’s 2-0 (21-6, 21-11) and Colfax-Mingo 2-0 (21-17, 21-15). The Trojans tied for second at the tournament.

After the tournament, PCM improves to 16-11 overall and the season, and Pleasantville moves to 24-9.
