The Pride of Indianola Marching Band placed 6th in class 4A at the Urbandale Invitational on Saturday, scoring a 78.7. Band Director Mike Richardson tells KNIA News the band performed well despite the warm temperatures and it being their first competition of the season. Richardson says this year they are trying to add some more complicated movements since they were a young band last year that gained a lot of experience.
“We are trying to add in a few more visuals into our show, as the influence of drum corps has had a definite impact on marching band. We are trying a few new things, and it’s even gotten myself and Mr. Swanson out of our comfort zone on trying to teach these concepts to these teenagers. So it’s been a lot of fun so far getting it going.”
The band will next compete this Saturday at Valleyfest at West Des Moines Valley High School.
