Dutch Dominant in Conference Men’s Soccer Victory
A trio of second-half goals aided the Central College men’s soccer team en route to a 4-0 victory over Buena Vista University Wednesday.
Goalkeeper John Foster played the full 90 minutes and made two saves. Nolan Piedimonte scored his fourth goal of the season in the 12th minute to put Central on the board. He was assisted on the play by both Joe Brown and Jack Hillis. Coleman Manuel made it 2-0 in the 60th minute, using a Piedimonte assist to score for the first time in 2023. Piedimonte was given a penalty kick in the 80th minute, the keeper stopped the initial attempt but Nick Colavita cleaned up the rebound to make it 3-0. Making his varsity debut Luke Crawford scored in the final minute, with Taylor providing the assist.
Central plays its final non-conference match Friday at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville at 7 p.m.
Cahill Sets Record in Central Women’s Soccer Triumph
Senior Paige Caill became the Central College women’s soccer program’s all-time leader in assists during a 5-0 win over Buena Vista University Wednesday.
With two assists in the game, Cahill took over sole possession of the Central (6-2-4, 1-2-0 American Rivers Conference) record for most assists in a career at 20. Kaitlyn Isom and MiMi Pavelka both found the back of the net in the first five minutes of the contest. Isom also had two assists on the night. Amber Santana and Nicole Sinclair also recorded assists. Grace Coates added two more goals, moving her season total to 12. She’s the leading goal scorer in the American Rivers Conference. Hailey Hunter had her first scoring tally of the season as well. The Dutch defense logged its seventh shutout of the year. Zoey Sizemore started in goal, making one save in 31 minutes and 42 seconds of work. Bailey Lester did not need to make a save over the final 58:18.
Central is off from competition until next Tuesday, travelling to Luther College for a 5 p.m. match.
Dutch Women Blank Beavers on the Tennis Court
The Central College women’s tennis started a busy week of duals with a 9-0 victory at Buena Vista University Wednesday.
The Dutch (6-4, 4-2 American Rivers Conference) rolled through the three doubles matches, led by the No.1 team of Lauren Gano and Emma Murphy winning 8-0. Brianna Lindstrom and Taylor Wyeth won 8-0 at No. 2. Keleigh Hall and Jayden Kissack won 8-6 in the No. 3 slot. Lindstrom did not lose a set in singles or doubles, taking No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Gano was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 3. Murphy won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Wyeth won 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2, Ellie Sackett won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Kalina Schubert won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Central travels to Wartburg College for a 4 p.m. match Friday night. The Dutch also head to Coe College for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday.
