The fall harvest season is ongoing in south central Iowa and despite the ongoing drought, yields have been good this season.

Harvest may be slowed over the next couple of days, as a multiple-day rain event is expected to move across the state today through Friday. Grain Division Manager at Two Rivers Cooperative Justin Huebner, says that the rain could provide a much needed break for local farmers and that it will be good for the soil.

“Locally, we’re dry enough going into this harvest, that there’s still some pretty big cracks in the ground out there and I think that this soil is going to be able to handle a decent amount of moisture. Now it might knock you out for the day, but I think the soil will handle it and I think we’ll be able to get at it again faster than what maybe would have been if we would have had a normal rainfall all growing season. But it’ll also be welcomed for doing any sort of fall anhydrous ammonia application.”
