The Pride of Indianola Marching Band is getting ready for their state competition on Saturday, after performing well at Urbandale and Valleyfest over the past several months. This year’s drum majors are Carly Schettler, Matt Winjum, Erik Jensen, Katherine Peck, and are performing the space-themed routine of “One Small March for Band” that features David Bowie, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and more. Schettler is a two-year drum major, and tells KNIA News this Saturday will be her last performance, and saying goodbye to the band will be an emotional day.

“My favorite memory hasn’t been one that’s made yet, but one that’s going to come, which is when our senior speeches are going to be given. We tend to do those at the state competition which is this Saturday. All the seniors gather in a circle, and all of the other underclassman gather behind them, and each senior is given a minute or so to just say their farewell to the marching season, and it’s going to be an emotional one.”

The drum majors, in addition to color guard captains Taylor Hoger and Lexi Shanks, will be featured on upcoming Let’s Talk Indianola programs.
