The Indianola football team defeated #2 ADM to keep their district championship hopes alive in a 24-0 shutout heard live on 94.3 KNIA Friday evening at home. ADM was without star quarterback Aiden Flora, but the Indians were unstoppable on the ground for the entire game. An Aiden Keller field goal put the Indians up 3-0, followed by a Jake Pontier three-yard rush to put the Indians up 10-0 after an interception.

The Tigers drove down the field to answer back, but fumbled the ball on the two-yard line, and the Indians maintained the 10-point lead at half. Quarterback Andrew DeWall tossed the ball forward to Jonce Hale on a 17-yard score in the third quarter, and DeWall scored on a short touchdown to close the door in the fourth.

Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the team knew that a path to the playoffs was slim at best if they fell to the Tigers, and now with the win they have a chance at a district championship.

“We talked about it. We’re very proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish the last five years, making the playoffs in the 16-team format. Making the quarterfinals the last two years, something that’s only been done one other time in Indianola history. They knew they didn’t want to be the team that didn’t keep that streak alive and make the playoffs. We still have to take care of business, but this was the first step. That was talked about a lot, those guys were very well aware of what was at stake.”

Pontier led the team with 178 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries, while DeWall had 66 yards on the ground, while the defense forced three turnovers. The Indians improve to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in district play, and will wrap up the regular season on Thursday at Mediacom Stadium against Des Moines North.
