The Pride of Indianola Marching Band is traveling to Waukee for their final two competitions of the season today, the State Marching Band and the Waukee Warrior Marching Invitational. This year’s drum majors are Carly Schettler, Matt Winjum, Erik Jensen, Katherine Peck, and are performing the space-themed routine of “One Small March for Band” that features David Bowie, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and more. Peck tells KNIA News the younger members of the band have done well in memorizing a difficult routine, and that has allowed the band to shine.

“I think it’s been really great. Our underclassman, our freshman and sophomores, have really caught on very quickly. That’s really allowed us to advance our show really quickly and get everything down so then we can get to the little details and make sure our show is as good as it can be. So having those younger members who are ready to step up to the plate and handle that well makes it easier to get what we want accomplished.”

Performances are today at 3:25pm for the State Marching Band Contest, and 8:30pm for the Waukee Warrior Marching Invitational. The drum majors, in addition to color guard captains Taylor Hoger and Lexi Shanks, will be featured on upcoming Let’s Talk Indianola programs.
