The Knoxville Volleyball Squad survived and advanced to the semi-final round of the class 4A regional on Tuesday with a three sets to none sweep over Newton 25-13, 25-19, and 25-14. The Panthers and Cardinals traded the lead back and forth for the first several points of set one, but Knoxville gradually pulled away forcing Newton to take a time out up 14-6 and kept the Cardinals at bay. Knoxville trailed early in set two, but ran off another flurry of points to take control midway, and largely dominated set three to clinch the win. Junior Player Hannah Dunkin told KNIA/KRLS Sports, her and her teammates figured out where Newton was directing the ball, they were able to set their defense and win most of the points.
Dunkin: “We knew number eight was their go to player, and once we found her we did really well. I think overall we played really well. We were getting good touches and get our block where it needed to be so that was good.”
