Marion County Public Health will be holding a dementia friends session hosted by nurse Judi Van Hulzen tonight.

The event will be held at the Knoxville Public Library from 5:30-6:30 pm, and is an opportunity for the public to learn more information about dementia, and provides those affected and their caregivers with resources that are available. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, at least 66,000 people in the state of Iowa are living with dementia, and in Marion County, there are 800 residents living with dementia. At this session you will learn what dementia is, who is affected by it, and you’ll learn some simple and empathetic techniques for communicating with and supporting people living with the disease.
