At around 10:15 pm Tuesday evening, the Indiana Township Fire Department was dispatched for a commercial structure fire.
Marion County Dispatch reported that a shop was fully engulfed. While ITFD was en route to the station, mutual aid was requested for Bussey Fire, Columbia Fire, Knoxville City Fire, Knoxville Township Fire, and Melcher-Dallas Fire. ITFD responded with an engine, a tanker, a wildland truck, an ambulance and 9 firefighters. Upon arrival crews found heavy fire coming from the front of the structure and a defensive attack was initiated. The structure had a combine and a tractor inside and several other exposures nearby. Mutual aid departments brought several extra firefighters along with their apparatus. Knoxville City Fire established a water supply in the City of Knoxville and tankers hauled water from that hydrant for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, bringing several thousands of gallons of water back to the scene. Crews returned to quarters shortly before 1:00 am Wednesday, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
The Indiana Township Fire Department was assisted on scene by: Bussey Fire, Columbia Fire, Knoxville City Fire, Knoxville Township Fire, Melcher-Dallas Fire, Marion County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Dispatchers, and Mid-American Energy.
