The next Afternoon Adventures Speaker Series hosted by Indianola Parks and Rec is Tuesday, featuring An Afternoon with Edgar Allen Poe. Kathy Kester with Indianola Parks and Rec tells KNIA News Cedar Rapids storyteller Darrin Crow will appear as the master of Gothic horror to talk with the audience and share his best stories and poetry, including “The Masque of the Red Death”, “The Raven”, and “The Tell Tale Heart”.
Crow has had a lifelong interest in storytelling that started by listening to family stories as a youngster. As a high school student, he volunteered at a living history museum, where he found he could use stories to help visitors understand their heritage. He studied interpretive speech in college and has been involved with acting and storytelling ever since.
Crow’s performance will also feature one of Poe’s comedies, “The Angel of the Odd,” a cautionary tall tale about the dangers of too much drinking.
The event is part of the department’s Afternoon Adventures series sponsored by Community 1st Credit Union. It will be held at the Indianola Activity Center at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 24, and is free and open to the public.
