indianola-8

Four touchdowns in just over six minutes of the second quarter blew open an eventual 56-0 victory for the Indianola football team over Des Moines North last night in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The heavily favored Indians led 7-0 after a sluggish first quarter as Jake Pontier scored his first of three rushing touchdowns midway through the frame. Then Adler Deike opened the floodgates with a pick six, followed by another Pontier score, a Deike fumble return touchdown and Pontier’s hat trick as Indianola built a 35-0 lead at halftime. Coach Eric Kluver complimented Deike on his big game afterwards.

“He’s done a tremendous job all year long. He’s kind of our edge setter and made some plays. What a defensive players dream come true with a couple of defensive touchdowns. He’s a really good player, a headsy player, and you saw that tonight.”

Indianola added three second half touchdowns, an Eli Fox reception, a Thomas Lund rush and a Peyton Wilbur scoop and score on a botched hook-and-ladder.

The Indians limited the Polar Bears to just 12 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers. Pontier led the offense with 91 yards on nine carries, topping the 1,000 yard mark for the season.

Indianola finishes the regular season at 6-3, 4-1 in the district, clinching their sixth straight playoff berth. The Indians will win class 4A district 5 with an ADM win over North Polk tonight, and will finish as runner up if the Comets top the Tigers. The large school playoff matchups will be released tomorrow morning.
