The Pleasantville football team will open postseason play on the road tonight as they travel to West Branch.
The Trojans closed out the regular season with a 5-3 overall record after a commanding 59-0 victory over Cardinal last week. With that win, Pleasantville secured third place in Class 1A District 6. The Trojan defense has impressed as of late, pitching a shutout in each of their last three games. Senior running back Caleb Cook continues his dominating 2023 campaign finishing the regular season with 1,596 all-purpose yards, and 18 rushing touchdowns which leads all of Class 1A.
Pleasantville will now look to keep their momentum going as they face the 5-3 West Branch Bears, who defeated Durant 39-0 last week to close out their regular season. The Bears are led by sophomore quarterback Brennan Dale who has thrown for 820 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. West Branch also carries a balanced rushing attack consisting of five different players who have carried the ball 30+ times this season. Pleasantville Head Football Coach Mack Jorth says that West Branch has several strengths.
“I think they’re a really good football team. They’re very well coached. They’re diverse. They do a lot of different things offensively and defensively. I think they’re very good in the trenches. They have a very good offensive and defensive front. Line, linebacker, etc. They’re very physical and aggressive. They attack the offense and defense very effectively, so we have to be ready to go, and execute at a high level for sure.”
Kickoff tonight in West Branch is at 7:00 pm.
