Knoxville Police Officer Cody Nichol has been named the new school resource officer for Knoxville Community Schools.
Nichol will take over for Sergeant Kyle Keller, who was recently promoted. Qualifications for a school resource officer include a minimum of 24 months with the department, a proactive approach to law enforcement, ability to work with minimum supervision, a desire to work in a K-12 educational setting, and a willingness to attend/instruct training as it relates to overall student/staff safety. According to Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller, Officer Nichol exceeds all of these qualifications.
Nichol has served the community of Knoxville for four years as a full-time police officer, and for three years as a reserve police officer. Officer Nichol will take over for Sergeant Keller, who had served in the SRO role for the last eight years.
