The Indianola City Council met in a special session Monday evening. The council approved the third consideration of the resolution to raise the pay of the Indianola City Council, Mayor, and members of the Indianola Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees.

Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the ordinance came at the request of City Manager Ben Reeves after a compensation study was conducted and determined the council and mayor were underpaid when compared to cities of similar size.

“As we looked at those numbers we noted that comparable to peer cities, the council and mayor were underpaid so an ordinance was brought forward, to have them consider pay increases to better match where we are at with our peer cities. Another thing with this was with the city onboarding the Indianola Wellness Campus, the former YMCA, we felt it was a good time to look at the benefits provided to the Indianola City Council and provide them with a free membership to that campus.”
