The #2 Indianola volleyball team is headed back to the Xtream Arena in Coralville, as they dominated Glenwood in the regional final 3-0 Tuesday night at home to earn their second straight trip to state.
The Indians fell behind early in the first set 10-12, but after a timeout from coach Kent Halstead, the Indians finished out the set on a 15-4 run to win 25-16.
That scoreline would become familiar for the rest of the night, as the second and third sets played out nearly the exact same, with the Indians using a strong serve from Aspen Nelson to gain an early advantage, and they would spread the ball around to their multiple outside hitters and middles to keep Glenwood off balance, winning both sets 25-16.
Head coach Kent Halstead said it was a true team effort, with everyone stepping up.
“Pick your poison. You’ve heard me say before, any team can get to 15-18, but to get to 25 you have to be able to terminate. The game has changed so much, you have to be able to jump and hit, and we do that.”
Senior Tori Runyan said the Indians haven’t had very many miscues this season, because they have had it as a team identity to be focused on the match in front of them.
“Coming into this season our motto was Every Ball. It shows that we’ve valued every point so much, and we see every point as another opportunity to play each other. Our season isn’t very long, so I think it’s just the will and want to play with each other for as long as possible.”
The Indians will play #7 Marion on Monday at 4:25pm, with the game being broadcast live on 94.3 KNIA.
