Simpson College is hosting 2007 World Food Prize Laureate Dr. Philip E. Nelson today, as he presents “A Career with Unexpected World Impact.”

Dr. Nelson is a Professor Emeritus at Purdue University, and in his 50-year career developed a number of aseptic food processing and packaging methods that allowed the safe storage of large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables. His research and achievements in aseptic processing technology have benefited developing countries by providing an inexpensive packaging and shipping system for importing and exporting perishables.

The event is presented by the John C. Culver Public Policy Center and the World Food Prize Foundation, and Nelson’s lecture will be held in Simpson’s Black Box Theatre in the Kent Campus Center at 1pm, with the public invited.
