The PCM Mustangs defeated the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks 36-0 to earn a trip to the state quarterfinals Friday night in a game heard live on the KRLS3 stream.
The first quarter was a defensive battle, and stayed knotted at 0-0 after the Mustangs were able to keep Mid-Prairie out of the end zone after an interception by Griffin Olson. In the second quarter, the PCM offense came alive with a 50 yard touchdown run by Adrien Robbins to start the scoring, and the Mustangs never took their foot off the gas pedal after that. Senior wide receiver Griffin Olson reeled in two more touchdown passes in the game, and now has six scores over the last two games.
PCM quarterback Gavin Van Gorp had two rushing touchdowns to cap off the scoring for the Mustangs. The PCM defense pitched their second consecutive shutout of the season, and were able to contain the explosive passing and rushing attack of Mid-Prairie. PCM Head Football Coach Greg Bonnett was impressed with his defense in the win.
“We kind of developed into a little bit of bend but don’t break, and then every once and awhile snap back and get yourself a pick or a big sack type defense. That’s what we were tonight. It was a really good team effort. Everybody stayed in position and filled in their gap like they were supposed to. We knew they were going to make their plays on us. We just didn’t want them to make big ones and we held them in that. It was a great effort tonight.”
PCM will host Van Meter next Friday to take on the #2 ranked Bulldogs in a quarterfinal game starting at 7:00 pm.
