A vehicle crash in Bussey led to an arrest, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. On Friday evening, Marion County deputies responded to the intersection of Edwards Street and 6th Street in Bussey for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Deputies discovered a black 2019 Dodge Ram Big Horn was traveling westbound on 5th Street turning south onto Edwards Street. As the vehicle turned, the driver lost control, striking a tree broadside. The impact caused serious injuries to an adult female passenger. Also present in the vehicle with minor injuries were two adult males and two juvenile males, ages 4 and 8.
Bussey Fire & Rescue transported the female to Twin Cedars High School, where she was airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital.
Deputies arrested Zachary Newendorp, age 27, and transported him to the Marion County Jail with the following charges:
• Operating while intoxicated
• Child endangerment x2
• Careless driving
• Failure to use child restraint device x2
• Failure to maintain control
