White crappie is the primary fish species in Lake Red Rock for fall fishing.
Lake Red Rock, the popular 15,000 acre fishing destination in Marion County, is the largest lake in the State of Iowa and offers some of the best fishing in south central Iowa. According to fishing reports posted by the Iowa DNR, white crappie is the primary fish that local areas are reeling in these fall months. The DNR says that white crappies in Lake Red Rock range from 6-15 inches, and fishermen have the most success by slowly trolling or using drifting panfish plastic lures if fishing from land. Marion County Conservation Officer Eric Hoffman gives some spots to catch the white crappies.
“Those Crappies will start really turning on again most likely in the white breast arm or the marina cove are really good spots to target fall species. That is probably our number one species that people come to fish for at Lake Red Rock with catfish being number two.”
A valid fishing license is required for all fishing at Lake Red Rock.
