The Warren County Redistricting Committee held a public hearing regarding their proposal for election districts earlier this week, as required by law as the Warren County Board of Supervisors will expand from three to five members in 2025. Redistricting Committee Board Chair Drew Merrifield tells KNIA News as the public hearing he addressed questions regarding the need for districts rather than at-large seats, and said the districts is what is currently required by state law for Indianola, and to change to at-large seats the citizens of the county would need to instigate that change via a referendum.
“If people would like to see it differently, then they’ll need to approach the board of supervisors and ask for something like that to be put on a ballot, it would take a vote for that to happen.”
The proposal now goes before the board for approval, before being sent to the Iowa Legislative Services Agency for final approval before being official.
