A trip to the UNI-Dome is on the line tonight for the PCM football team, as they  host the undefeated Van Meter Bulldogs in the Class 2A State Quarterfinals.

The Mustangs are coming off a 36-0 victory over Mid-Prairie last Friday in the second round, marking their second  shutout of the postseason. In their  two playoff games PCM senior receiver Griffin Olson has reeled in six touchdown passes from quarterback Gavin Van Gorp, adding to the dominant rushing attack led by junior running back Adrien Robbins. Robbins has rushed for 1,978 yards on the season, and has found the endzone 24 times.

The Mustangs face their toughest test of the season as they take on the defending Class 1A State Champions in Van Meter. The Bulldogs are led by the duo of quarterback Austin Baumhover and running back Ben Gordon. Baumhover has thrown for 1,222 yards on the season, and 24 touchdowns along with rushing for 371 yards and 9 touchdowns. Gordon has added 1,807 yards on the ground, and a staggering 25 touchdowns. PCM head coach Greg Bonnett says that being able to host tonight’s game is something he hopes will give his team a boost as they try to make it back to the pinnacle of Iowa high school football.

“It is a good deal when our team is having success. We know that we’re going to pack the stands and be a rowdy environment on Friday night. Those are the types of memories I want to make. I love football in general but there is nothing quite like a couple thousand people showing up to watch 17 and 18 year old kids show up to go out there and play awesome, physical, gladiator type of football. I hope our guys don’t take this for granted, and I tell them not to.”

Coverage of PCM’s quarterfinal match-up  against Van Meter tonight can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame at 6:30 pm and kick-off will follow at 7 pm.
