
Seventeen Marion County Special Olympic athletes competed at the 2023 West Central Area District Bowling Tournament at Bowlerama Lanes in Des Moines in October.
Pleasantville’s Michelle Turnage presented the Iowa State Flag at the Opening Ceremonies of the event. Athletes that finished in first place and advanced to the State Bowling Contest on November 18th were Cameron Cross, Jacob Hindman, and Charlie Leavitt. Tegan Ripperger earned a second place medal at the event and Savannah Stralow got a fourth place medal. The doubles teams of Ben Heywood and Joe Morgan, Marissa Schletzbaum and Michelle Turnage, Seth Martin and Donnie McFadden, Paul Schnirring and Matt Trowbridge, and Andrew and Logan Taylor were all first place finishers. Also competing as a double team, Shawn Barker and Taylor Fearno earned a second place finish.
The State Bowling Contest will be held on November 18th at Bowlerama Lanes in Des Moines.
