The PCM football team fell to Van Meter Friday night in the Class 2A state quarterfinals 31-21.

The Mustangs offense started the game with a 19 play 80 yard drive capped off by an Adrien Robbins touchdown run to strike first in the contest. It was back and forth in the first half and both teams went into the locker room tied 14-14. In the third quarter, Van Meter quarterback Austin Baumhover ran in for two quick scores to put the Bulldogs up 28-14. After a field goal, PCM was able to put together a 20 play 80 yard drive that ended on a touchdown run by quarterback Gavin Van Gorp. The Mustangs rally fell short as time was not on their side.

Adrien Robbins rushed for 204 yards in the contest putting him unofficially at 2,182 yards on the year to cap off an incredible junior season. Although the Mustangs’ run at a state title fell short, the team will be returning many key pieces of their offense and defense for the 2024 season. PCM Head Coach Greg Bonnett was pleased with his team’s effort tonight and he feels that in the end, it’s ultimately about the ride.

“The sun is going to come up tomorrow. It’s a game and we enjoyed playing it. You got to remember in these experiences that it’s all about the ride. I’ve won state titles and made the dome and stuff like that but when it’s over it’s still the same feeling. It’s all about the ride and the older I get the more I truly appreciate that.”

PCM ends their 2023 season with a 8-3 overall record.
