The Simpson football team’s defense was short multiple starters including the entire starting defensive backfield, and the Loras Duhawks took advantage of the matchups in an 82-14 defeat for the Storm Saturday as heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Duhawks score twice in their first four offensive plays before Simpson would answer, as quarterback J Jensen III found Reed Worth for a two-yard score that was answered by Loras for the Storm to trail 21-7, then Jensen found Worth again for a 50-yard score to cut the lead down to 21-14, and that would hold until the final 2:08 of the first half, where Loras used a combination of turnovers and defensive stops to score three more times before the break to lead 42-14 at half.

Despite the large lead, the Duhawks continued to throw the ball down the field against the depleted Storm in the second half, with the Storm getting their only points on a blocked extra point returned for two points.

Head coach Reed Hoskins said it would be easy to use the excuse of injuries to explain the game, but he wants his guys to look at themselves and ask how they want to respond after the lopsided score, and use it as motivation moving forward.

Worth had 82 yards receiving, which puts him just 81 yards away from being the all-time receiving yards leader in program history. The Storm will have their season finale on Saturday at Buxton Stadium hosting rival Central.
