Tuesday is Election Day in Marion County, and some races in Knoxville are contested, but some are not.
The 2023 city school elections in Knoxville will feature uncontested races for the city which include mayor and city council. Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch is running unopposed, along with city council incumbents Dawn Rankin and John Gotta. New city council candidate Bridget Mohler will be running unopposed as well.
The Knoxville School Board race will be contested as six candidates are running for three different spots. Incumbents Cheri Gerdes, Dave Smith, and Larissa Van Donselaar are challenged by Jyl DeJong, Brian Slykhuis, and Susan Swartzendruber. Voter registration is available at a polling site on the day of the election. Polls will be open from 7:00 am-8:00 pm on Election Day, and Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia encourages everyone to come out and participate in the process.
“It is important. It’s our local governments. It’s where we pay our taxes, and lead our communities. It’s an opportunity that we should all cherish. We take it seriously and just encourage everyone to get out there before 8:00.”
