vote-2023

Today is Election Day in Marion County, and races for the Knoxville School Board are all contested.

For the Knoxville School Board, six candidates are running three spots. Incumbents Cheri Gerdes, Dave Smith, and Larissa Van Donselaar are being challenged by Jyl DeJong, Brian Slykhuis and Susan Swartzendruber. In the city races, Mayor Brian Hatch is running unopposed. For Knoxville City Council, incumbents John Gotta, and Dawn Rankin are running unopposed alongside Bridget Mohler who is seeking her first term.

In the State of Iowa, voters can register the day of an election. Knoxville Ward One will vote at the Marion County Extension Office, Ward Two will vote at the Knoxville Public Library, Ward Three will vote at Community of Christ Church, and Ward Four will vote at Dyer Hudson Hall at the Marion County Fairgrounds, and Knoxville Township’s polling location is at Marion County Public Health. Election results will be available tonight at the Marion County Courthouse but Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia knows how important local elections are.

“All elections are important but these local ones, that’s out local control, our local dollars. These are the people we see out on the street all of the time who make decisions that affect us directly.”
