Nearly 4,000 Pella residents turned out to have their voices heard in a closely contested city election Tuesday. According to data available from the Secretary of State’s OFfice, 51.2% of voters participated out of 7,792 total registered.

Mayor:
Don DeWaard – 2,048 – 51.3%
Tony Bokhoven – 1,941 – 48.62%

At-Large:
Harold Van Stryland – 1,987 – 51.65%
Liz Sporrer – 1,852 – 48.14%

Ward 2:
John Butler – 561 – 51.2%
Calvin Bandstra – 535 – 48.8%

Ward 4:
Dave Hopkins – 433 – 60.81%
Ryle Smith – 276 – 38.76%

Library Measure:
Yes – 48.91% – 1,954
No – 51% – 2,041

Mayor Don DeWaard discussed the results below in a brief interview with KNIA/KRLS:

For the Pella School Board races, two new members will represent the district moving forward. Travis Thompson defeated incumbent Tim Tripp by 24 votes, and Paul Weesner won unopposed in the seat occupied by Gary Coppock, who decided not to run this year.

Travis Thompson – 1,834 – 50.11%
Timothy Tripp – 1,812 – 49.51%
Write-In – 14 – 0.38%
Votes Cast 3,660

District 2:
Paul Weenser – 3,042
Write-In – 49
