It was another signing day at Knoxville High School and three girls signed to continue their athletic careers at the highest levels of collegiate athletics. Brittany Bacorn is now a member of the University of Tulsa Volleyball Program. Bacorn became the first player in Knoxville Volleyball program history to attain 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs, and 1,000 career assists. Bacorn told KNIA/KRLS Sports all of her hard work has paid off.
Bacorn: “It was a lot of hard work and all the sports I played I was just motivated. The recruiting journey was tough and you never know what the coach is thinking, and I’m glad I waited a long as I did to commit and I’m happy I ended up at Tulsa.”
Teammate Ella Breazeale says it was a relief to get the recruiting process over and looks forward to joining her future teammates at Belmont-Abbey College.
Breazeale: “It’s just so exciting to get over that next step and to make my home at Belmont-Abbey. I can’t wait to join Tony and her team.”
Breazeale led the Panthers this fall with 286 kills and was able to attain the 500 career kill mark. The third athlete was Ciara Heffron, who signed her National Letter of Intent to the University of Northern Iowa for track and field. Heffron told KNIA/KRLS Sports a year ago, she would never have thought track would be her future college sport, but after her season last spring it became evident that throwing would be in her future.
Heffron: “Track wasn’t even a thought a year ago. Bacon said I can send out a few emails for you, and I was like, I guess you can, and that’s where that path led.”
Last spring Heffron had a season for the ages, breaking the school record in the discus several times, qualifying for the Drake Relays where she finished 3rd and followed that up at the State Meet at the Blue Oval with a 2nd place finish in class 3A.
