USDA Rural Development State Director in Iowa Theresa Greenfield visited Knoxville Hospital and Clinics (KHC) on Wednesday afternoon.

Greenfield, and several other USDA staff came to congratulate KHC CEO Kevin Kincaid and the entire hospital on their 2023 $699,900 grant they recently received to help with the economic impact of the pandemic. The grant was part of the Emergency Rural Health Care Grants Program. KHC was one of ten recipients to receive the grant.

Kincaid shared with the USDA what the hospital has been able to do with the funds and there was round table discussion on the future of the hospital, underfunded hospital needs, and KHC’s ongoing $21 Million expansion project. The KHC staff was also able to show the USDA the telemetry equipment, which was awarded by the USDA in 2021 for $63,400. Greenfield spoke about her passion for quality rural healthcare throughout Iowa, and the fulfillment of seeing the USDA grant being used effectively in Knoxville.

“It’s exciting and it also tells me that investments we make as part of the Biden Administration into rural America works. It’s working right here in Knoxville. This is what investment looks like. Helping this hospital provide, and expand their services for the community.”

Greenfield and staff also stopped by Knoxville City Hall to discuss the need for a new city hall and public safety building, and avenues where the city can receive financial help with the project.
