Knoxville High School student Jason Vinsick has been accepted into the Iowa Senate Page Program at the Iowa State Capitol.

Each year, the Iowa Senate and Iowa House of Representatives employ select high school juniors and seniors of high academic standing to serve as pages for the legislative session. Pages start work at the beginning of the legislative session in January and work all the way through until May, or essentially a semester of school. Pages participate in a large variety of tasks ranging from responding to requests from senators, handling of senate material and supplies, working the telephone switchboard, and assisting the President and Secretary of State just to name a few.

Vinsick developed a love for politics around the time of the 2016 election and joined Marion County Republicans his freshman year of high school to get more involved. Vinsick developed contacts with Iowa State Senator Julian Garrett, Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith, West Des Moines Mayor Russ Trimble, and State Senate President Amy Sinclair. Vinsick received recommendations from these legislators and was accepted into the program. Vinsick is excited about the opportunity and hopes more young people will get involved in politics.

“I’m super excited to help work with the legislative session. I’m very excited to help our senators whether Democrat or Republican. Most of all. I’m just hoping I can spark more people to get interested in politics and get themselves involved. There is already a continuous string of young people who are involved, but I hope with a message such as mine more people will realize their voices can be heard.”
