Habitat for Humanity of Marion County broke ground on a new home Monday at 105 Dewitt St. in Pleasantville.
Kayla and Pierce Raleigh have been selected as the new homeowners by the organization. Swayne Construction will be handling most of the construction work on the home, with digging of the basement scheduled to begin today and hope is that the project will be done around June 2024. The Raleigh family will be required to do 300 hours of sweat equity before they purchase the home, and once complete, they will do so with a one percent down and a zero-interest mortgage. After breaking ground on the home, Pierce said he and his family are looking forward to the process of building their new home and seeing the final product once it’s complete.
“I think it’ll feel even more personal being that our sweat is gonna go into this and just being able to have the options to choose what we do and just seeing the process ,I think it builds up more anticipation and I think it’ll be an even greater reveal when we finally see the house when it’s finished. To be able to see it from where it is now, just a small field and stuff like that to when the basement’s done and when the framing is done as just slowly get to watch it get built up I think it’ll just be an even greater joy to be able to see the final picture of it and what it finally looks like.”
