The American Legion Post 165 in Indianola held a Veterans Day ceremony at the statue of Medal of Honor recipient Junior Edwards. Sergeant First Class Junior Edwards was an Indianola resident who was awarded a Medal of Honor for his actions during the Korean War, the only Iowa resident to do so. Vice Commander of Legion Post 165 James Welty tells KNIA News it was important for the legion to honor Edwards and helped raise the money for the statue to be erected, and it couldn’t have been done without the support from the community and the IOOF Cemetery.
