An annual U.S. News & World Report publication shows Pella Middle School ranked among Iowa’s best in the state rankings. The magazine ranked Pella Middle School as the 4th best middle school in the state based on its math and reading performance and proficiency, with an overall score of 99.05 out of 100. The school’s math score was the 2nd best in Iowa out of 316 ranked. According to these metrics, Northeast Iowa school Denver Middle School was the top-ranked school in the state.
Pella Middle School principal Scott Tjeerdsma commented, “This high ranking is confirmation of the emphasis our staff places on not only high academic standards, but also a positive culture where all students can thrive.”

An earlier publication by the U.S. News & World Report showed Pella High School ranked among Iowa’s best in national rankings as well. The magazine rated Pella High School as 8th best in the state, based on college readiness, state assessment proficiency, performance, and the graduation rate for the Class of ’21. Pella ranked 1640th out of the 17,680 evaluated for the study nationally.
