Pleasantville running back Caleb Cook and tight end Dayson Leerhoff were selected to the Class 1A All-State second team by the Iowa Football Coaches Association/Iowa Print Sports Writers Association on Tuesday.
This season, Cook ran the football 148 times and racked up 1,109 yards rushing with 19 touchdowns on the ground. In the passing game, the senior recorded 17 catches for 217 yards and another two touchdowns. Cook’s 19 rushing touchdowns ranked third in Class 2A and his 1,709 all-purpose yards was the fourth most in the class. In addition to his offensive production, Cook was Pleasantville’s leading tackler on the year with 42.5.
As the Trojans’ tight end, Leerhoff posted 381 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 20 receptions this year. A steady contributor on the defensive side of the ball as well, Leerhoff recorded 33.5 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and eight tackles for loss.
Pleasantville finished their 2023-2024 season with a 5-5 overall record after a first round playoff loss to West Branch.
