Pella Christian senior Trevor Veenstra was selected to the Class 1A All-State second team as a  defensive lineman by the Iowa Football Coaches Association/Iowa Print Sports Writers Association on Tuesday.

In his last season on Eagle Lane, Veenstra led the Eagles in total tackles with 63, solo tackles with 50, sacks with 7.5, and tackles for loss with 22. The senior’s 7.5 sacks was tied for the third most in Class 1A with Bryce Diehl of MFL MarMac and his 22 tackles for loss were tied for 4th in 1A with Tristen Koehn also of MFL MarMac. A four-year starter for the Eagles defense, Veenstra posted 155.5 total tackles, 125 solo tackles, 19 sacks, and 55.5 tackles for loss over his career. 

In addition to his defensive efforts, Veenstra was also a key component for the Pella Christian offense and special teams units. Offensively over his career, Veenstra rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries and caught 38 passes for 766 yards and nine touchdowns. Serving as Pella Christian’s punter the last two seasons, he recorded 27 punts and averaged 34.9 yards per punt. Additionally, Veenstra registered two kickoff returns for touchdowns this season and was successful on four of his eight two-point conversion attempts.
