The Pella Christian basketball teams have their first doubleheader of the season tonight at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Eagles girls are looking to get their winning percentage back above .500 tonight, after falling to 1-1 on the young season with a 58-48 loss to Montezuma last Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Class 2A #2 Rockets are off to a 2-0 start to the year, having defeated Lynnville-Sully and Pleasantville. In the Bound era, the Pella Christian girls hold a 16-6 advantage in the series dating back to 2007. In recent years however, EBF has controlled the matchup, winning the last three meetings.
The boys contest tonight between the Eagles and Rockets marks the first game of the season for both teams. Since 2011, Pella Christian is 7-1 against EBF, with their lone loss coming in the second game of the year last winter. Knowing that the Rockets will test his team tonight, Eagles head coach JD Boer says he’s excited for tonight’s contest.
“I love this game, because Eddyville is a really good team. I thought they were a state caliber team last year and they return a bunch of their guys and we return a bunch of our guys. So, they’re a familiar foe and will be kind of measured and tested right from the start.”
Coverage of Pella Christian’s basketball doubleheader at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tonight can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with the Scooter’s Coffee Radio Pregame Show for the girls contest at 6 pm.
