The Simpson women’s basketball team defeated Coe College in an American Rivers Conference contest Wednesday evening 79-68, while the Storm men fell to the Kohawks 82-75.
The Storm women used a dominated 25-13 first quarter to gain the lead and never looked back, leading the contest for all but 1:32, shooting 40% from deep and earning a 34-31 lead at the break, then growing the lead throughout the second half. Elle Street and Cassie Nash led the team in scoring with 20 and 16 respectively, while Molly Lutmer added 11.
The Simpson men fell behind after a cold shooting first half 41-30, but madea comeback attempt in the second half to get the lead close, but ultimately couldn’t get the lead and pull away. Andrew Curran scored 22 points to lead the Storm, while Caden Rehmeier scored 19 and Andrew Gibb 16, as the Storm team shot a dreadful 7-28 from long range.
The Storm women improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference, while the men are now 3-3 overall and 0-2 in conference. Both teams next play on Saturday hosting Dubuque.
